Home Artistic Projects

Artistic projects created through The Healing Arts program use different art forms including visual arts, photography, dance, theater, creative writing and video. These projects can be short-term or long-term, lasting a single session or multiple classes, depending on the complexity of the process and the populations served. Emphasis is always placed on creative thinking and problem-solving. Many of these projects reflect cultural heritage and deal with community issues.

Projects created through The Healing Arts programs include:

  • On The Loose, a rap CD with songs written and performed by children ages 11 to 15
  • A program-wide exploration of themes from Picasso's Guernica
  • Puppet books featuring felt puppets in watercolor environments
  • An ongoing photography club where children learn basic principles of photography
  • A digital photography reinterpretation of Loteria cards using hospital images taken by youth on kidney dialysis
  • Portraits of babies painted by teenage mothers
  • A photography training program for detained youth from Central America
  •  A Girls Club with arts activities that build self-esteem and address issues of concern to pre-adolescent girls.
